Ian D. Henery (B.A. Hons Law), Managing Director, Solicitor
Ian Duncan Henery is the Principal of the firm and an amazing solicitor. He was given a Training Contract with Eversheds in Leeds (which was at the time the UK’s largest law firm and one of the most prestigious) due to his work with Mother Theresa in India. The man has not just merely met a Saint but actually worked with her in the slums of Calcutta, in the orphanages and the Leper Colony when he was just 18. He published a book about his work with Mother Theresa (A Ripple of Love) and made a BBC documentary at the age of 19. He became Vice President of the Trainee Solicitors’ Group in 1993, made "Partner" by 1999 and started his own firm, Ian Henery Solicitors Limited in 2000.

In recent years, Ian has been donating toys as Father Christmas to sick, orphaned and disabled children in Malaysia. In England, Ian has raised money for local Cancer and Dyslexia charities while climbing the Three Peaks. Ian was Poet Laureate of Walsall for three years, appointed by the Mayors of Walsall, and has published a number of books.

Ian Henery is the current Lord of the Manor of Withersdale, Suffolk, a title once held by the Archbishops of Canterbury.

Irene Yoong-Henery, CEO and Director
Irene Yoong-Henery is our Chief Executive Officer. She is a qualified Chartered Management Accountant and in charge of Marketing Strategy.  Prior to joining Ian to set up Ian Henery & Co., she worked for Sainsbury’s plc (at the time, the most profitable supermarket group in Europe) as Assistant Regional Accountant in their Regional Offices in Leeds and Coventry for 5 years. Irene masterminded the setting up of the VERY SUCCESSFUL Birmingham Chinatown offices of Ian Henery Solicitors Limited.

Irene was born in Malaysia and speaks Mandarin, Cantonese and Malay in addition to English. 

Irene Yoong-Henery is the current Lady of the Manor of Withersdale, Suffolk and is an active Conservative Party member, championing the rights of women and unborn children.

Bernard Yoong, B.Sc.(Hons) Marketing, Director
Bernard is a Director and Practice Manager at Willenhall Head Office. He graduated from Minnesota State University, U.S.A. in Business Marketing. 

Bernard works in the Wills & Probate department as well as supervising Criminal, Immigration and Employment Law cases.
Bernard speaks Mandarin, Cantonese (Chinese) and Malay in addition to English.

Su Peng Lee, Director
Su Peng is our Director and Practice Manager for our Birmingham offices.  Prior to working with us, she worked for 10 years in a multi-national bank and was assistant to the Vice President.  Su Peng was born in Malaysia and she speaks multiple languages and dialects, being fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, Teochew, Hokkien and Malay.

Patrick Lam, Trainee Solicitor
Patrick is an experienced advocate in the field of Intellectual Property, and have years of experience drafting commercial agreements for sales & purchase of goods/services, distribution agreements, license agreements and agency agreements.

Patrick studied at Lingnan University in Hong Kong, University of Hertfordshire and the University of Law in the UK. He is now based in our Latitude office in Birmingham city centre.

Patrick speaks excellent Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) and English.

Sharon Yaqoob, Paralegal
She successfully completed her ILEX Level 3 with the Institute of Legal Executives and went to further complete LLB with Honours from Coventry University. Sharon also has an LLM (Master of Laws) from University of Law- Birmingham. 

Experience in Crime: Crown Court Department - Serious offences against children, serious murder offences, serious drugs offence including cultivation of drugs, serious violence cases, Indecent images and Rape cases.

Experience in Family Matters such as Divorce.

Seama Kapoor, Solicitor
Seama Kapoor gained a LLM (Master of Laws) after her LLB and completed her professional studies at the College of Law, London.

Her areas of expertise are serious crime and fraud. She has dealt with a wide array of offences ranging from murders, GBH, drug offences, possession of firearms, serious sexual offences, cyber and financial crime.

Seama is proactive and regularly halts prosecutions by effective tactical strategies and representation; often at the early stages. She is adept at dealing with voluminous case papers by assimilating complex evidence in a simplistic manner and identifying core issues of preparation. Her analytical, meticulous and assertive approach ensures that significant results are achieved for a broad client base.

Seama is also instructed to appear at the Youth and Magistrates’ Court, particularly for trials. Her most recent acquittal was in the case of R v N-B, s18 Grievous Bodily Harm with intent (2016), where a youth was accused of using a hammer to cause a serious head injury to another.

Seama also undertakes civil cases on a privately paying basis.

Lorna has worked for Ian Henery for over 20 years and has assisted Ian with criminal cases for all that time. She has done prison visits and attended Crown Court hearings on cases of serious crime. Lorna speaks Patois as well as English.

Taslim Kahn
Taslim is the Senior Solicitor in the conveyancing department.

She is a specialist in both commercial and residential property exceeding 10 years of experience covering all aspects of property work from purchases and sales, leasehold matters, reconstituting deeds to HNW commercial matters.

Taslim completed her undergraduate degree in European Studies with French then went on to commence her legal education at Staffordshire Law School. Most recently she has achieved a post graduate in education.

Her career has seen her work in a real mix of firms which Taslim says this was a’ very enjoyable experience’. Taslim has said that her aim is to build a strong property department and have well trained staff to support it and to provide a top quality service to clients.

Chandeep Bhamra, Trainee Solicitor
Chan is a Trainee Solicitor in the Property Department based in our Latitude Office in Birmingham. She studied for the BA Honours in Business and Business Law and then obtained the Graduate Diploma in Law before studying the Legal Practice Course.
She enjoys working with Estate Agents and most of her clients are Property Developers, Private Investors and Landlords.
Her experience includes advising on all aspects of Residential and Commercial transactions.
It is very important to understand that when a client is purchasing or selling a house, the transaction needs to run very smoothly and all parties must work together to achieve the end goal.

Shu Jia, Paralegal
Shu Jia completed the Legal Practice Course with Distinction at the BPP University in Birmingham.

She is also dual qualified having obtained the LLB in China and the UK, and the LLM from the University of Birmingham.

Shu Jia was a practising lawyer in China having held the Chinese Lawyer Licence, and she is familiar with both Chinese and English Law.

At Ian Henery Solicitors, she assists Mr Vincent Yee with Conveyancing and Immigration matters at the Arcadian office.
